On this day in 1954, the Japanese fishing boat Lucky Dragon 5 and its crew were contaminated by fallout of American nuclear tests. This incident stirred up Japanese fear and anger over the WW2 nuclear attacks. This incident was one of the key inspirations for Godzilla.
